Southwell Community Archaeology Group welcomes new members to be part of a friendly and forward looking group, dedicated to the exploration and preservation of the archaeology of the ancient Minster town of Southwell and surrounding areas.
In liaison with professional archaeologists and local universities we are engaged in a number of interesting projects including the HLF Funded excavation 'Burgage Manor Revealed Project', a long-term Field Walking Project to map historic land use patterns of the locality and a Standing Buildings Project to record and survey surviving vernacular buildings. There are regular post-excavation recording and analysis sessions throughout the year and the opportunity to engage in expert-led tutorials in artefact identification.
In addition there is a series of talks for members on the archaeological heritage locally and further afield.
