Southwell Flood Forum is a community group affiliated to the National Flood Forum. It was formed following the severe rainstorm which caused flooding of many properties in July 2013, some of which had also been flooded in 2007, and offers support, help and information on a range of issues related to flooding.
We work closely with Nottinghamshire County Council, the Lead Local Flood Authority, local authorities, DEFRA, agencies and related organisations to reduce flood risk. We have formed partnerships with both Universities in Nottingham covering research on both Flood Management in Southwell and Community Resilience.
Mitigation solutions will include engineered as well as natural flood management measures to reduce risk and impact of flooding. Funding will come from a range of sources including a community contribution of £125k, some of which may be 'in kind' according to the voluntary hours expended, resources donated and grants raised.
