Wellow Maypole Celebrations

Monday, 28th May 2018 : 12 noon to 5pm

Spring may have been a little delayed this year, but the village of Wellow will be celebrating its arrival, come rain or shine, on the Late Spring Bank Holiday, Monday 28th May. This year the organising committee is delighted to announce the return of Elaine Hill and her sheepdogs – she will be demonstrating her skill and that of her dogs, with the aid of some ducks, on the maypole green during the afternoon! The main focus of Maypole Day is, of course, the Crowning of the new May Queen, following the children's procession from St. Swithin's church. After this, the children demonstrate the variety of intricate maypole dances they have learnt in the weeks leading up to the big day. There will be live music from Acorn Roots, Scottish country dancing, Punch and Judy, children's swing boats, and lots of stalls, crafts and games to keep everyone amused. Hot and cold food is available throughout the afternoon, including delicious home made cakes from our renowned cake stall in the village hall. Come and join the fun from 12 noon to 5pm. Admission is free, but we do hope you will buy a programme and some raffle tickets to help fund next year's event. Parking is available at Wellow Dam and Wellow House School. See you there!
