WW1 Coffee Morning

To remember the end of the First World War. Come and join us for Tea and Cake and a talk by local historian Andy McKinnon. He will be talking about how the war affected Bilsthorpe in respect of some of the men who went away to fight, the role of boys and old men and, of course, local women, all of whom would have done their bit to help ensure that our fighting forces could be sustained, and victory achieved.

Winter Wilson

Music lovers are in for a treat, as True Blue Music bring top duo Winter Wilson to The Hop Barn, Hockerwood Lane, Southwell on Saturday 17th November. To coincide with the Winter tour, Winter Wilson released their eighth studio album, ‘Far Off on the Horizon’, another fine collection of original songs on subjects as diverse as migration, old age, young love and Australian weather! And once again the critics loved it. “It’s always a scary time when a new album goes out for review,” said Dave, “and there’s a huge sigh of relief when the reviews are good. But it’s the live performances that we really love best, and fortunately audiences seem to enjoy them too.” Indeed they do, and as a result the pair were recently voted runners up in the "Best Duo" category in the national Folking.com awards. "We were thrilled," commented Kip. "The shortlist included some folks we really admire, so to be voted number 2 by the general public was a real honour." Both multi-instrumentalists and fine singers, the couple intersperse great songs and stunning harmonies with often hilarious stories of life on the road and spontaneous humour. "We're very aware that we're in the business of entertainment,"said Dave. "Some of the songs can be quite hard hitting, so we know it's important to lighten things up in between. Also we both like having a giggle, and luckily our audiences tend to join in." This will, however, be a very special date for the pair, as their first ever appearance as a duo was in Upton. "We were living in Newark, "Kip told us "and the band we'd been playing in had recently folded, so we were really pleased to be offered a duo gig at the Cross Keys. The rest is history." TrueBlue Music promotes events in North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, with the aim of supporting local arts organisations and other local charities. All the profits from TrueBlue Music events go to support Beaumond House Hospice in Newark. Doors open at 7:00pm, and tickets cost £12 (plus booking fee) from www.eventbrite.co.uk.
