10.30am to 4.30pm

Half term at Notts Military Museum

Nottinghamshire's action-packed Military Museum will open its doors early again this year - for the spring half-term holiday. The decision to open for three days from February 21 to February 23 follows the success of pilot schemes in 2016 and 2017. "As the Museum caters so well for families and is free to enter, we wanted to be open at half term along with other attractions in the Thoresby Courtyard where the Museum is located," says Curator Captain Mick Holtby. Activity areas for youngsters are continually updated with new information and quizzes. Dressing up in historic military uniforms and learning about the weapons used in key campaigns gives young visitors a unique insight into famous battles of the past as well as the techniques of modern warfare. There is plenty for their parents and grandparents to enjoy too, including the Call to Arms exhibition featuring a realistic reconstruction of a First World War trench, with visual and sound effects, depicting what it was like to live in such cramped conditions under enemy fire. The museum re-opens fully for the 2018 season on 1st March.

Rainbows Celebrity Lunch

Popular TV presenter and writer Kate Humble has teamed up with Rainbows hospice and is Leicestershire-bound to attend the charity's Celebrity Annual Lunch as its guest speaker.   The event is a chance to share a sumptuous three-course lunch with the celebrity broadcaster at Welford Road Stadium, home of the Leicester Tiger. Guests will hear anecdotes and entertaining stories, followed by a question and answer session.   The broadcaster has become a household name for a clutch of nature-based programmes, including Springwatch and Autumnwatch.   And she has written for publications including The Telegraph, The Times, The Independent, Travel Africaand Wanderlust. She also has a regular column in the Saturday Telegraph about her farm. Nancy Lillington, Rainbows Events Manager, said: "We are delighted Kate has accepted the invitation to speak at our Celebrity Annual Lunch and know she will be a big draw for the event, which raises money to support our work at Rainbows." All proceeds from the event will help support youngsters with life-limiting conditions and their families. It will be hosted by BBC Radio Leicester presenter Dave Andrews. Tickets at £40 per person are now available at www.rainbows.co.uk/lunch.
