Southwell Flood Forum

Southwell Flood Forum is a community action group affiliated to the National Flood Forum. It was formed following the severe rainstorm which caused flooding of many properties in July 2013, some of which had also been flooded in 2007. It offers support, help and information on a range of issues related to flooding.

Using the valuable skills and knowledge of the local community and working closely with Nottinghamshire County Council, the Lead Local Flood Authority, local authorities and agencies we aim to help reduce flood risk. We have formed partnerships with both Universities in Nottingham covering Community Resilience and the installation of and research on Natural Flood Management (NFM).

The Southwell Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS) comprises engineered projects which are funded by central Government, local councils and community contributions. A complementary project, “Improving Flooding Resilience in Southwell”, funded by INTERREG through the Flood Resilient Areas by Multilayer Safety (FRAMES) Programme working with the Trent Rivers Trust and National Flood Forum, will install further NFM and build community resilience.
