The best of sporting prowess across the district was recently celebrated when the 2015 Newark and Sherwood Sports Awards named its winners.

For the first time, the awards were presented to individuals and clubs in the community instead of the usual awards ceremony.

Bilsthorpe Ladies Running Club was delighted to be named as Club of the Year following a successful year, which saw the group increase to 38 members.

The Running Club is affiliated to England Athletics through Run England and has been hugely successful in the last year. The group of members are collectively very motivational, inspirational, friendly and supportive, providing great fun and community spirit. The club provides a wide range of runs for new starters and intermediates, encouraging women to increase exercise in line with their ability and make small achievements.

Through the supportive nature of the club, more members attend regular runs, including Parkrun, and a number of members have noted a drop in weight, feeling fitter and healthier.
