Southwell Gardening Club is preparing for a weekend packed with entertainment on the 19th and 20th July. All funds raised will go to support the Southwell Flood Forum and then Southwell Care 'Flower Pod'.

For the twentieth year, the Rotary Club of Southwell recently sponsored the Rotary Challenge at the Minster School in Southwell. This annual event is keenly competed by the tutor sets of Year 12 at the school. Rotary provides a trophy and individual prizes for the winning team.

A soapy bucket – rather than an ice bucket – challenge will see staff from fire stations across the county raising money by washing cars for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Residents can support their efforts by taking their dirty cars along to a station and having it cleaned in return for a small donation to the charity.

Over the next few weekends various stations will be holding car wash events to help raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which is the UK's leading provider of rehabilitation and support services to firefighters, fire service staff and their families.

The charity is entirely self-funded and the car wash events that take place nationally are one of the ways they raise much-needed funds to carry out their important work.

Firefighter Arron Enever, from Highfields Fire Station's White Watch, is the Fire Fighters Charity coordinator for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. He said: "The National Car Wash is always brilliant fun and the charity's largest national fundraising event of the year, when firefighters across Nottinghamshire and throughout the UK roll up their sleeves and willingly wash the nation's cars, in exchange for a donation.

"In 2013 we raised over £285,000 through Car Wash events, which took place in March and September across the UK. This fantastic total went directly towards helping fire and rescue community members in need of support."

To support the forthcoming car washes, which are backed by Autoglym, simply go along to your local fire station on the dates below, where you'll be able to have your car cleaned by firefighters while supporting the fire service community.

Details of stations with confirmed car wash dates are below and details of fire station addresses are on the NFRS website here http://www.notts-fire.gov.uk/B968B160FCC547F2B729747425CBD70F.asp
