Nottinghamshire Military Museum in Thoresby Courtyard.

D-Day Exhibition

A special exhibition celebrating the involvement of local soldiers during the D Day Landings marks another major milestone for the Nottinghamshire Military Museum in the Thoresby Courtyard. With a major focus this summer on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, the museum is staging a five-day exhibition highlighting the preparations and action of The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, The South Notts Hussars and The 24th Lancers as well as the Thoresby Estate’s connection with troop training prior to D Day. The exhibition is open from Wednesday 26th to Sunday 30th June. A special event on Saturday 29th June for Friends of the Museum and the public will include a display of vintage World War Two vehicles and current vehicles provided by the Royal Lancers as well as radio-controlled military vehicles. Offering a great day out for visitors of all ages, the museum, which is free to enter, celebrates both the history and current activity of the local cavalry.

Barcos and the Extraordinary Journey of Tango!

Le Page Ensemble presents a special summer concert on Thursday 11th July at 7.30pm at Southwell Library. In 2016, Le Page Ensemble joined forces with Argentinian bandoneon player and composer Eduardo Garcia to record Barcos, an album of his extraordinary Tango influenced works. In addition to the works composed by Garcia for the bandoneon and string quartet, the album also features music by the renowned Argentinian visionary Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) whose uncompromising musical innovations completely changed the face of Tango over four decades. Garcia’s music is inspired by the life-changing journey across the Atlantic made by Europeans seeking a new life in the Americas. Tickets available from Southwell Library, Adults £15, concessions £12.00.
