Discovering Southwell Public Meeting

The group would like to thank the many people who completed our questionnaire, circulated in May, attended our various events, and participated in the focus groups. This was a very valuable exercise and over the last few weeks our colleagues at Nottingham Trent University have been analysing the results. The meeting will commence with a brief presentation explaining the Ecomuseum concept and will be followed by a detailed presentation of the consultation results. Attendees will be encouraged to express their views about the future of this exciting project, and for the development team to reveal their immediate plans for the way forward. A number of people have expressed an interest in volunteering to take part in future projects. This will be a good opportunity to register their interests and have discussions with the development group. FREE event - all welcome.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

This is one much-loved event which does not rely on good weather, though that always helps of course.  Come along before, during or after shopping on Saturday morning and sit down for a cup of fresh coffee or tea.  Bring friends, family and children to enjoy or take away delicious home-made cake too.  As well as trying your hand at familiar games and raffles you can browse through pre-owned books, jigsaws and family games, children/toddler items and visit the ever popular plant stall.   Organisers, the Rotary Club of Southwell, are once again supported by Southwell Lions and all money raised goes direct to Macmillan Cancer Care.  Thousands of pounds have been raised over the years for this brilliant cause and every year the target is to set a new record.  Be sure to come along and help to make it happen.  Trebeck Hall is at the bottom of Bishop's Drive in Southwell, right next to the Minster, with free long-term parking available down at the Memorial Ground.

Hoveringham Apple Day

Come and enjoy a family day out, picking apples in the beautiful Victorian orchard at Hoveringham Hall on Sunday 6th October, 1 to 5pm. There are four acres of grounds to enjoy, and stunning views across the Trent Valley. There will be a display in the old stables about the history of the Hall, and an apple press. Visitors can either use the Hall’s, or bring their own apples for juice-making, and are more than welcome to take apples home with them for their own use. The intention is to produce a community cider next year, so we’ll be suggesting how you and your apples can get involved during the next 12 months!” All proceeds from the event are going to the RAF Benevolent Fund to honour the fourteen men who died in two Lancaster crashes in Hoveringham in 1945. Visitors can walk through the Hall’s estate to the Lancaster Aircrew Memorial on the riverbank. Entry £4 (children under 12 free). Refreshments available. Dogs welcome on leads.
