Upton Village Fete

The annual Upton Village Fete returns on Saturday 14th August (fingers crossed that the Covid restrictions have been lifted by then!) and it promises to be the family fun-packed afternoon it always has been, set in the beautiful grounds of the B.H.I. (Upton Hall), with lots of exciting activities, stalls, food, and entertainment. There will be live music - provided, once again, by ‘The ‘Moonshiners’, a duo covering some old favorites ranging from Rockabilly to RnB. There are lots of fun activities for all ages, from soft archery through to welly-wanging, as well as a wide selection of stalls; including original artwork, crafts, bric-a-brac, cakes, vegan food, and, of course, raffle and tombola. As is a tradition in Upton, we will finish off with some light-hearted races for children, adults, and even dogs – so come prepared! If the excitement gets too much you can always chill out at the refreshment tent (organised by Clock House Café) or even get yourself a revitalising pint/prosecco/Pimms from the bar and a burger from the barbeque. Do come along on Saturday 14th August from 2.00 pm until 5.00 pm, for a fun-packed afternoon. Entry is free.

Rainbows Open Day

For Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, the impact of Covid-19 has meant the East Midlands’ charity has had to change the way it supports many of its families. Because of restrictions, the main change has been providing care to families in their Nottinghamshire homes rather than at the Loughborough-based hospice. Last month marked Children’s Hospice Week (21st-27th June), the only week in the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children’s hospice and palliative care services across the UK. As part of the week, Rainbows announced it will be holding its first-ever outdoor Open Day on Saturday 18th September. Alison Furlong, Head of Community and Events at Rainbows, said: “We would love to have the opportunity to still be able to show you what we do, even when life isn’t the way it used to be. “At our first Outdoor Rainbows Open Day you will have the opportunity to meet our Care Team and hear first-hand how we are supporting hundreds of children and young people and their families across the East Midlands. Under marquees and in our wonderful gardens, we will bring the care we deliver to life, and show you how our supporters make a real difference.” Entry is free but in order to manage numbers and stagger arrival times in line with government guidelines, a booking system will be operating this year instead of the usual drop in format. The event runs between 10.00am and 4.00pm. Alison added: “To help us ensure we can safely manage numbers; we ask that you please book in advance this year. We are a working hospice and providing a safe environment for everyone is paramount to us.” To book a place, visit www.rainbows.co.uk/openday21
